Hey, that looks great. My only critisicm would be that the actual game screen seems a bit out of the way. Seeing as that is the part of the screen that people will be looking at most of the time, it might pay to make it a bit larger or more central to the screen layout.
Mayhaps if you put cash as a section in the Status box, or moved the messages box down to the bottom so that it had less height but more width and took a bit of height from the Packs/Items/Inventory row.
Just let me know if I'm being an idiot because I don't know how easy or hard it is to change this around from a programing perspective, but looking from a design persepctive I just think you'd benefit from giving the game screen a bit more visual weight.
Calculate the x-delta and y-delta of the spot to fire to. If x-delta is the biggest then it's left or right depending on x-delta's sign. If y-delta is bigger it's up or down...
